2016 Cuvée Alphonse Rose
Grenache Noir (50%), Syrah (50%).
Clay and limestone soils facing south/south-east, located at the bottom of Luberon mountain.
Vineyard converted into organic farming since 2014. Green pruning (disbudding). Early morning & manual harvests (2am-8am), to benefit from juices freshness, at optimal maturity for Syrah and Black Grenache.
Yield: 40hl/ha, below the maximum yield allowed by the AOP (55hl/ha).
Selection of parcels. Manual harvests. Selective sorting. Full bunch vinification. Direct pressing with pneumatic press. Separation of pressed and free-run juices (after tasting). Cold static settling for a minimum of 48 hours. 3 weeks mono varietal fermentation in demi-muids (500L barrels) at a temperature of 15°C).
10 months in Austrian demi-muids (500L barrels) over fine lees. Clarification by racking and filtration before bottling.
Generous nose transporting us in a field where red small berry trees are growing under the sun. Strawberry, redcurrant blended with hints of exotic aromas (jasmine, coco).
Silky and delicate mouth bringing back mall red berries with livelyness and freshness. Long lasting after taste with salinity, signature of Domaine de Fontenille's wines.
The structure of the wine allows original wine and food pairings, salty and suggary.
Luberon's goat cheese platter, a generous strawberry pie, haddock and grapefruit salad... Focus on summer and/or sophisticated dishes.
